Ordinarily, I advise my clients to choose a close family member or trusted friend who possesses these qualities.
I recall one instance where a client named their eldest son as executor without considering his strained relationship with other siblings. This unfortunately led to significant family conflict during the estate administration process. It highlighted the importance of choosing someone neutral and impartial if possible.
According to a study by Caring.com, nearly 40% of Americans haven’t discussed their end-of-life wishes with loved ones. Choosing an executor is a crucial part of that conversation.
